Marsh's Butchers on the Triangle
Permalink

I lived in Clevedon between late 1982 and late 1985.  I used to get my meat from Marsh's butchers on the Triangle, in fact Mr. March became something of a friend and without doubt, the best butcher I have ever used.

I am a keen cook and am very fussy about my roast beef.  Mr. March introduced me to the "corner cut" which is a piece of topside and I can say I never had a poor piece of roasting beef from him.

He never sold previously frozen meat and so, you would need to go in on certain days of the week to get certain items.  If something needed preparing, it was never too much trouble.

I returned to the Midlands and did not come  back down to the west country for a good 10 years.  I made a visit to the shop and there was Bill Marsh looking not a day older.

In the past couple of years, I discovered the shop is no longer a butchers shop and I wonder what happened to Mr and Mrs. March (who used to run the fish dept in the back of the shop).

This is my first post on the board and hopefully not my last.  I miss Clevedon and if the opportunity arose, I would move back tomorrow.

My last visit was July this year and some of the town has improved and a little seems to have gone down the nick (the Crabapple pub for one example).

If anyone knows when the butchers shop closed and what happened to Bill and his missus, I would love to know.

Keith

I was wondering the same thing. Excellent meat, of all kinds, unassuming chap. Where does one go now to get such relaible meat?
